In lieu of some new telescopes that will be used to hunt for extrasolar planets, NASA scientists have shared some interesting if odd sounding ways they hope to seek out signs of alien intelligence: smog in a planet’s atmosphere, urban lighting and heat, artificial black holes, and megastructures (like gigantic solar panels). As space telescopes improve and our galactic backyard becomes more transparent, our odds of finding our first clues improve.
