Speculative Fact #307: Fictional Groups of People

The Amazon warrior women appear in Greek mythology, but were also alluded to by ancient historians and geographers. They were long thought to be a mythical and fictional people. Scythian burial sites have women interred with weapons, as that culture trained both men and women to fight side by side as equals. The myths of the Amazons might have been inspired by ancient Greeks encountering actual warrior women during their travels in the East.
Mythology could help inspire you to create or reimagine a fictional group of people. Robert E. Howard’s character Conan was a Cimmerian, and his character Kull hailed from Atlantis.
Myths are often memorable because they take a kernel of truth and find ways to romantically embellish it – have a field day.
