Speculative Fact #314: A.I. Versus Cancer

6/9/2016

PictureThe doctor is in.
So, I know a lot of the research on the advancements in A.I. are pretty scary. Skynet is coming! Skynet is coming! But, our robot overlords may bestow upon us lowly humans the gift of better health (maybe immortality?)

Enter  BPM31510, the first drug created with the help of a super computer. Basically doctors and scientist loaded the computer with data, tons of data, loads of data, infinite data, more information than a person or team of people could handle efficiently. The information they're uploading is focused on targeting cancerous cells and turning them off. Initial results have been very successful. The process is recursive and learns from previous tests to further hone the effects. Combine this with personalized medicine--treatments specifically designed for an individual's genetic make-up-- and we might revolutionize life saving treatments of all kinds (at least for people who can afford it).

I think we're at a very explosive stage, this fusion of biology with technology in helping us understand the basis of this disease more fundamentally.- Dr Niven Narain
Sounds like a wonderful idea?  Combine super A.I. with an app for your cell phone (or whatever comes after cell phones) with a friendly looking humanoid interface. Maybe there's an implant under your skin that connects to your A.I doctor,  recording medical information in real time and saving it to your personal server. Does this make you uncomfortable? Of course it does. But, since when has going to the doctor been anything else?  At least now there's an off button.
