From the elvish languges of Tolkien to Klingon, constructed languages are becoming more and more popular in spec fiction and media (e.g. Dothraki in The Game of Thrones).
Does your story require something that sounds ancient and yet familiar? Or perhaps something utterly alien?

Tolkien’s elvish Quenya was influenced by a number of languages he found beautiful, including Finnish. From vowel harmony and consonant mutation to agglutination; using inspiration from existing (but perhaps rare) languages may aid you.
