Speculative Fact #288: Dark Matter Cloud

 One scientist has come up with a very unorthodox explanation for what eventually lead to the extinction of the dinosaurs; it involves the mysterious dark matter.
            Dark matter doesn’t interact with normal matter and is hard to detect, but according to Lisa Randall, it might have led to repeated crises on Earth. Although it remains elusive, dark matter is known to have gravitational influences. According to Randall, the Solar System might pass through a cloud of dark matter once every 35 million years as our galaxy rotates. This cloud could dislodge comets and asteroids and wreak havoc on Earth.   

If a cloud of dark matter was on its way for us it could be a good reason to fund a deep space exploration mission. The invisible cloud could be the harbinger of doom on Earth...or maybe humanity could find some way to use it to their advantage. A plot beckons.
