Speculative Fact #291: When Nature Fights Back

Picture
In the climactic third act of James Cameron’s Avatar, the native alien wildlife on Pandora rises up against their human agitators and turn the tide of a losing battle.
During the Emu War of the 1930s, the Australian military performed embarrassingly in its attempt to cull large numbers of wild emus. The famous “giant squid” incident in Jules Vernes’ 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea might have been inspired by the French corvette Alecton which encountered an actual giant squid in 1861.
The antagonist in your next story might be all around us - and might see humanity as its enemy.
