Carbon nanotubes (nanometer scaled tubes of graphite) have a number of different properties (high tensile strength and conductivity) and have been envisioned for a number of various applications (i.e. cables in space elevators). While CNT were once thought of as very rare and exotic, researchers have found a way to “grow” CNT from molecular “seeds.” CNTs might become very commonplace and available in the future, leading to machinery and technology we could only dream about.
