Speculative Fact #168: Molecular Light

Scientists at Harvard and MIT have found a way to bind photons (light particles) together to form a state of matter that was previously only speculative (pun intended).

Whereas light particles are typically treated as massless and don’t interact with other light particles, this new form of matter (dubbed photonic molecules) behave more like the stuff of science fiction.
While researchers admit somewhat jokingly that the results remind them of light sabers, they’re thinking of more practical applications in the near future (such as quantum computers).
