![]() A snail that lives near deep-sea thermal vents in the Indian Ocean has developed an interesting defense. Iron Sulfide minerals have surrounded the sea mollusk in a natural suit of armor. Upon further examination researchers discovered that the armor is arranged in a sandwiched layer that may inspire future armor for the military or biologically inspired sportswear.
