Sometimes the cool and creepy critters of speculative fiction have strange or novel weapons beyond the claws and jaws we are familiar with.
The alien is Ridley Scott’s Alien had a spear tipped tail, hydraulic teeth, and hydrochloric acid for blood.
A species of snail (Conus geographusand C. tulipa) kills speedy fish with an usual weapon…insulin. By doping up its prey with a potent shot of insulin, they can slow them down long enough to finish them off with more toxic brews.
Your stories may have a motley array of creatures with very unexpected tricks up their sleeves, as nature shows us.
