It’s beginning to look like a wet solar system after all!
This March NASA scientists shared evidence indicating that Jupiter’s moon Ganymede (the largest moon in the solar system) has an ocean of liquid water underneath its surface.
This means that Ganymede can be added to a list of wet worlds such as Europa (another moon of Jupiter) and Enceladus (a moon of Saturn). Other candidates? Scientists have their eyes on the Jovian moon Callisto and the dwarf planet Ceres.
If we ever establish settlements on other worlds, water will be necessary for sustainability. These water worlds may become futuristic oases in a vast desert.
