 John Hunter: England’s greatest surgeon tried to steal the nasal polyps of celebrated composer Joseph Haydn, while he was still alive. No anesthesia. 


Benjamin Rush:  Suspended patients from the ceiling, for hours on end  to cure mental illness. He invented the “tranquilizer chair," employed all over the world that restrained a patient’s hands and feet, covered his head with a wooden box and had a hole cut in the bottom, for bodily functions. He would then attempt to beat the mental illness out of them. 

Don't even get me started on what they did with women and leaches.  There's plenty more where they came from.
